State studies animals near North Bend to reduce collisions

The ribbons of highway that crisscross Washington help move freight, commuters and vacationers. They also put humans and wild animals on a collision course.

Each year, 10,000 deer are hit on state highways, according to rough estimates by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
