Police arrest man after high-speed chase near WWU

Police arrested a young man after a brief chase Wednesday afternoon, March 12, near Western Washington University’s south campus.

The driver of a red 1995 Lexus fled from a routine traffic stop around 12:20 p.m. near the university. A WWU police officer chased the car down to Old Fairhaven Parkway at speeds up to 55 mph, according to police scanner traffic. On his radio, the officer said he could see a rifle in the backseat. The car headed west toward Fairhaven, then circled back to the Happy Valley area.
