Opal Charter School teacher recognized in new book profiling gifted educators across the country

Kerry Salazar, an elementary school teacher at Opal Charter School, has been recognized as a top educator in the new book, “American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom.”

Salazar teaches first and second grade classes at Opal, a K-5 school housed in the Portland Children’s Museum. Opal is considered part of Portland Public Schools but is operated independently as a charter school.

The book by Katrina Fried, which profiles 50 educators across the country, praises Salazar for “nurturing the imaginations and curiosities of young developing minds.”
