Nevermind: Gregoire's chief of staff says it is now okay for state workers to open mail

One day after ordering state workers to stay away from their mail and an hour after a similar order by state mail services managers, Gov. Chris Gregoire's chief of staff has given the all clear.

"I have been in contact with General Lowenburg and the State Patrol and, based on their advice, I am hereby rescinding yesterday’s directive," wrote Jay Manning of Gregoire's office. "Law Enforcement and Homeland Security officials are now reasonably satisfied that the events of yesterday were limited to Maryland and are not part of a wider set of activities."
