Koenigs chose coaching at Everett Community College over a career in law or business

Matt Koenigs likes his job.

And right now, he can’t imagine ever leaving it. That’s how much he enjoys being the head coach in cross country and track at Everett Community College.

“I would like that,” he says when asked if he wants to make a career of coaching at EvCC. “This is the area I grew up in. I don’t want to move. We love our new neighborhood. We’re invested here.”

The 30-year-old Koenigs graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School, got his bachelor’s in business at Western Washington University and earned his law degree at the University of Washington. He, his wife, Leanne, and their young son, Chase, live in Mill Creek. Leanne is a school counselor.
