Burst sprinkler pipe damages WWU's Old Main

A sprinkler pipe burst in Western Washington University's Old Main building Tuesday evening, Nov. 23, causing water damage to offices on four floors.

About 6:30 p.m., a 2.5-inch sprinkler pipe burst in the ceiling above the fifth floor due to the frigid temperatures, said Tim Wynn, director of facilities management. The pressurized pipe sent water flowing for about 30 minutes down four floors as people evacuated the building and fire crews assessed the situation, Wynn said.
