Bellingham woman may be the 'mother' of the Pacific Crest Trail

"Barney Mann of San Diego has come to Bellingham four times seeking the soul of Catherine Montgomery.

He has learned much about her, and has come across some writings and comments suggesting what made her tick before she died more than 50 years ago. He wants to know more.

Lean and tan, Mann is an attorney who loves to hike, so much so that he's on the board of the Pacific Crest Trail Association. The group protects and promotes the trail that runs 2,650 miles from Canada to Mexico."
