Bellingham council votes to create transportation district

"City voters appear more likely to see a ballot measure in November asking them to raise the sales tax by two-tenths of 1 percent for transportation projects.

The City Council on Monday, June 21, voted 4-2, with council members Gene Knutson and Barry Buchanan opposed, to create a citywide transportation benefit district. Then, acting at the district board, the council would consider asking voters for the sales tax increase that would be in effect for 10 years. Stan Snapp was absent from the meeting."
