Architect Jim Zervas quietly transformed Bellingham, Whatcom County

A Midwest native, Zervas studied under famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the mid-'50s before joining a firm in Seattle. At one point, he was the on-site architect for Haggard Hall, a science building at Western Washington University that opened in 1960. A year later, he opened his own practice here.

"He basically fell in love with Bellingham," said architect Terry Moore, who worked with Zervas in the mid-'60s.
