Alum donates $1 million for new athletic field at WWU

A $1 million gift from a Western Washington University alumnus and his family's foundation will help build an athletic field that will be the new home for Western's NCAA Division II men's and women's soccer teams.

The total price tag for the project is $4.6 million, with a chunk of the funding coming from alum Scott Harrington, according to WWU officials.

Harrington, the group accounting manager at Microsoft, graduated from WWU's accounting program in 1998 and played on the NCAA Division II men's soccer team.

The field will be named the Robert S. Harrington Field in honor of his late father. The artificial turf field will be sized for regulation soccer and is expected to be completed in November 2013.
