All alone for half of an AT thru-hike, East grad Gilmore found himself

Up on the snowy summit, without a soul in sight, Seth Gilmore soldiered on.

He’d donned a new name – “Crusty Goat” – and suffered through the scorching summer heat in Pennsylvania, self-forded the daunting Kennebec River to the later horror of his parents, and chased off a bear near Damascus with a series of percussive shovel swats against a tree, to name but a few of his adventures.
