Industrial designer Paul Backett to speak at Western Nov. 14

Western Washington University’s Department of Design will host industrial designer Paul Backett at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Fraser Hall room 4.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Paul Backett is an industrial design director at Ziba Design, a strategic design consultancy headquartered in Portland, Ore. He has more than 10 years of design experience in numerous categories, but mostly in consumer electronics, medical, telecommunications, home goods, and person care products ranging in complexity from tactical product design to complex design strategies.

At Ziba, Backett is responsible for the creative output of product design projects, as well as guiding and mentoring the industrial design group as they progress in their careers. His diverse experience, couple with his desire to immerse himself fully in the target consumers’ world, has helped Backett deliver innovative brand building solutions for clients such as Nike, P&G, Respironics, and Dell.

Prior to joining Ziba, Backett was a designer at Seymour Powell in London, where he worked on programs for Nokia, Unilever, and Mission Speakers. A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Backett holds an Honors degree in Product Design from the Glasgow School of Art.
