Indian Street construction means potential traffic delays

A project to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety on Indian Street means that traffic will be slowed this summer as construction takes place.

For the project, workers will construct curb extensions and ADA accessible curb ramps, improve street lighting at intersections, remove on-street parking adjacent to intersections and resurface the roadway, according the City of Bellingham's website.

A public awareness campaign will inform students and residents about the project, heightening awareness about safety and safe bicycling and driving behaviors. Bellingham and WWU police will expand enforcement efforts regarding speed limits and yielding to pedestrians and bicyclists who have the right of way, according to the project description.
