In memoriam: Tika Armstrong, 1961 - 2010

Tika R. Armstrong passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, with her son, Spencer Carter, her lifetime friend Diane and Kevin Brearley by her side.

Tika was born Nov. 11, 1961, in San Diego and moved to Bellingham at the age of 6. Tika was preceded in death by her Dad, Robert "Bill" Armstrong, in 2010, and her mother, Phyllis "Sunny" (Sundseth), in 1993, and sister, Roxana, in 2002.

Tika graduated from the University of Colorado Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in business administration and a master's degree in business. She later received a certificate in elementary education. Tika’s favorite occupation was teaching second- and third-grade children in Tracy, Calif., and Bellingham. From March to October, 2008, she worked as an office assistant in the WWU President's Office.

Tika was known for her servant’s heart, her generous nature and her quick wit. She also had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was at peace when she went to heaven to be with him. Tika loved her son and was the most giving mother, auntie, “surrogate grandma” and best friend this world could offer. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly.

Survivors include her son, Spencer Carter. Also, because of Tika's selfless giving and loving heart, she had become a second "grandmother" for her sister's six grandchildren, Ceona, Alycia, Samson, Cylis, Ike and Dane Carter.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Moles Greenacres Chapel, located at 5700 Northwest Dr. in Ferndale.
