Holocaust Teaching Grants Now Available from Northwestern University

Thinking of teaching a course on the Holocaust? Teaching grants are now available from the Holocaust Educational Foundation at Northwestern University for the first half of 2017. See below for details.

Teaching Grant Application Guidelines

The Holocaust Educational Foundation is dedicated to promoting and strengthening Holocaust studies at institutions of higher education. To that end the Foundation invites applications for assistance to either launch a new course related to the Holocaust or improve institutional resources to support such a course.  In the past the Foundation has extended grants to fund educational training and release time for faculty, the acquisition of library and teaching materials, and events/trips required as part of a course.  The Foundation is a facilitating organization; it does not prescribe curricula or content.  We especially welcome applications from institutions and departments that do not currently offer courses focused on the Holocaust.

Guidelines

We accept applications on a rolling basis. There are two annual deadlines: December 1 for courses proposed for the following spring and May 1 for the following fall. To apply, please submit the following materials via the online form

(1) a proposal of up to 5 pages

(2) a preliminary syllabus for the proposed course

(3) a CV for each instructor involved in the course

(4) a letter of support from the department head or supervising administrator

(5) a budget for the project.

In the past the teaching grant has provided support from a few hundred to several thousand dollars per project.  In certain cases the Foundation will consider larger requests.  We require a report at the end of the grant period and request a final syllabus once the course has been taught.
