Did we mention everything is free? Including transportation?

Monday

  • Start your week off with coffee and cheese! Get out into the countryside and explore a local family farm and cheesemaker. Sample some local cheese and find out what quark is!

Tuesday

  • We’ve been invited to the Lummi Nation for lunch with the Lummi Youth Academy and a guided tour of the community with local playwright Darrell Hillaire. We’ll travel to and from the reservation via public bus, using our time in transit to discuss the lands we’re on. In the evening, we’ll get creative making zines at the Whatcom Peace & Justice Center in downtown Bellingham.

Wednesday

  • Discover Bellingham with a Good Time Girls tour of Holly Street History. Explore the Whatcom Museum for the current exhibit Images of Resilience: Chicana/o Art and Its Mexican Roots, featuring a talk by the artist-curator Amalia Mesa-Bains. Check out a new exhibition of sculptures from the Middle East and North Africa at Sculpture Northwest’s Art Beyond Conflict show. End the day supporting local youth at the Rock the Salish Sea concert at Mount Baker Theater, hosted by Alderwood Elementary School.

Thursday

  • We’re going to get out of the country! Meet at Fairhaven Station for an Amtrak train trip to Vancouver, BC, to tour the Vancouver Art Gallery and Museum of Vancouver. We’ll have lunch in Chinatown and a sunset snack on English Bay before heading back by bus to Bellingham.
  • Registration for this day is limited so sign-up now!

Friday

  • We’ll start the day connecting campus and community through a Teaching & Learning Academy dialogue at Maritime Heritage Park Pavilion. Then we’re going to pop over to the Bellingham Public Library for a talk on how children’s literature inspires bold conversations. Then kick back with some popcorn at the Pickford Film Center for screenings of three short films about diverse experiences living in Bellingham and on the Salish Sea.

We’ll end the week by celebrating at Brandywine Kitchen for a Salish Sea Social. Everyone welcome!

Join us March 20-24 for any and all these events. Did we mention that this is all FREE?
