Getting to know Deb Currier

Deb Currier, an associate professor in the theatre and dance department at Western Washington University, is the director of "Deception Pass: An American Story," on stage in the WWU Performing Arts Center through Feb. 3.

WWU Communications and Marketing intern sat down with Currier earlier this week.

Years at Western: 11th year teaching at Western

Originally from: Riverside, Calif., then graduate school in Oregon and now in Bellingham

Hobbies: "Aside from this [teaching], I make jewelry, paint and draw. I have two dogs who I absolutely love. I am a theatre professor, so my hobby and my work intertwine, so I’m lucky for that."

Favorite restaurant: "La Fiamma Pizza downtown, closely tied with Dos Padres in Fairhaven."

Favorite Bellingham location: "My house and Whatcom Falls Park."

Most memorable vacation: Road trip to Hopi Indian Reservation with her dad when she was 10.

Favorite WWU memory: The opening night of her very first show on the main stage during her first year at Western.

Favorite movie: “Pride and Prejudice”

Currently reading/watching: Watching “Downton Abbey” for the second time and “Once Upon a Time.” She is also currently reading an interesting autobiography on her Kindle.

Projects currently working on: “Deception Pass: An American Story,” an original play she has been working on and directing for the past three months. It premiered last week.
