Geographer and educator Kieran O'Mahony to speak about formal and informal learning experiences Jan. 14 at WWU

Kieran O’Mahony, from the University of Washington’s College of Education’s Learning in Informal and Formal Environments Center, will present “Connecting Formal and Informal Learning Experiences” at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in Communications Facility 105 on the WWU campus.

The event is free, open to the public and is part of the WWU Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series, which brings together the environmental studies and environmental science communities along with WWU and Bellingham community members to discuss matters of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world.O’ Mahoney will discuss his recent grant work funded by the National Science Foundation. The main focus of his research is the intersection of what can be learned from the workplace environment and teaching professional development in informal learning environments, as well as other areas that impact student performance and engagement. This lecture will focus on elements of learning sciences through formal and informal environments around a large dam removal and habitat restoration project.
