Gabbie Ewing comes to WWU as its new assistant athletic director for Marketing

Gabbie Ewing, a familiar name to the GNAC as a standout student-athlete and staffer, has been announced as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing at Western Washington University.

Ewing started her new position at WWU on April 1 and will oversee all the marketing efforts of the department that features 15 varsity intercollegiate sports. Her role will include all marketing and promotions for WWU Athletics, special event planning and directing the student marketing group.

Ewing comes to Western after a year at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference where she was a Digital Media and Championship Assistant. She assisted with the planning and execution of conference championships across several sports and was a key figure in the increased visibility of the GNAC’s social media accounts and online presence.

"This is truly a full circle moment for me,” said Ewing. “The GNAC has played such a significant role in my life as a student-athlete and young professional, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Having the opportunity to stay within our conference is special. I am so excited to be joining the staff at Western Washington and look forward to amplifying the student-athlete and fan experience."

One of her main projects was hosting the GNAC Insider conference podcast sharing the stories of many student-athletes across the GNAC footprint. She also oversaw the GNAC SAAC (student-athlete advisory committee) and assisted with compliance initiatives.

Prior to joining the GNAC, Ewing got her start in marketing as a gameday assistant and promotions team member for the Portland Timbers and Thorns. She was also a digital content manager and CRM strategist at Unifylink where she led a team of graphic designers and copyrighters and oversaw creation and execution of marketing and social media materials.

In addition to her time at the GNAC, professional soccer and with Unifylink, Ewing also started her own company The Athlete Confidential where she has established a platform for athletes to share their stories and experiences, focusing on topics associated with mental health, athlete identity and life after sport.

In addition to her time working in the GNAC office, Ewing is a former standout student-athlete in the conference as a star soccer player at Concordia University-Portland. Ewing was an All-American at Concordia and the 2017 GNAC Player of the Year, recording 62 points (22 goals, 18 assists) in 76 games for the Cavaliers from 2015-18. Following her graduation with a degree from Concordia in 2019 in Sport and Exercise Science, Ewing played professionally overseas in Sweden. Ewing obtained her Master’s in Sport Management from Solent University in England.

A native of Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, Ewing was a standout student-athlete at Hawai'i Preparatory Academy.
