Western’s athletics department introduced a new group of marks over the summer. They will be an essential part of a complete brand identity program designed to enhance the image and marketability of Western’s athletic program.

The marks are the product of several months of consultations through a committee that included representatives of the athletic department, students, alumni, faculty, public information, campus bookstore and others.

Western’s “family of marks” was created by the SME/SFX Entertainment Co. The primary mark features a Viking ship with Western Washington University written in an exclusively developed font. The secondary mark features a Viking head and helmet. The two marks can be used in various combinations with the font to provide a variety of applications for Western athletic teams as well as for merchandising efforts.

In conjunction with the new marks, the athletics department also unveiled its revamped Web site, wwuvikings.com, featuring a new design complete with information on all 15 sports, interactive fan polls, audio and video clips, online merchandising ordering and live audio webcasts for football and basketball.
