Free Money Sense seminars begin today on campus

Business students from Western Washington University will be offering a series of seminars starting in January for college students on topics related to using money wisely.

The Money Sense program is being offered by Western’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international honorary organization for business students and professionals. These free seminars will include food, prizes and will strive to prepare students for successful long term financial decision-making.

A free dinner will be provided to attendees beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the seminars begin at 6 p.m.; each seminar will be held in Communications Facility 125. Materials and additional resources will be provided so attendants can follow up on the topics they are interested in.

The date’s and topics covered are:

  • Jan. 19: Credit cards and credit scores: Topics include credit card options, how to build the perfect credit score, and new credit-card laws.
  • Feb. 2: Insurance: Topics include auto, health, renters and other types of insurance; how to take advantage of discounts.
  • Feb. 16: Different types of lenders: Topics include what banks, credit unions, and payday lenders offer; the basics of online budgeting.
  • Mar. 2: Loans: Topics include types how to apply for the best loans; comparing personal, auto, and other loans.
