Flu shots available Nov. 9 and 17

Flu vaccinations for Western Washington University students, faculty, staff and their family members 13 and older will be available, while supplies last, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 and Nov. 17 in the Meeting Room at the Student Health Center.

To reserve a flu shot date and time, please visit the Student Health Center website and click on Flu Vaccination Clinics under News and Events.

Vaccinations for high-risk WWU students (those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma or those on immune suppressing medications) are available weekdays at the Student Health Center. Please call (360) 650-3400 and select option 1 to schedule an appointment.

Faculty, staff and their family members must first purchase a flu shot ticket for $18 at the Cashier’s Office in Old Main Room 245. The ticket must be presented to the nurse prior to receiving the shot. Personal checks will not be accepted in lieu of a flu shot ticket. The nurse will initial the ticket after the shot is administered. The initialed ticked may be submitted to the patient’s insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Students don’t need to purchase a ticket in advance, as the $18 charge will be billed to their student accounts. Any student wishing to seek possible reimbursement from his or her insurance company may request an initialed receipt from the nurse administering the shot.

Dr. Emily Gibson, director of the Student Health Center, encourages those with chronic illnesses to get their flu shots as soon as possible and notes that they might need a booster flu shot in January to protect them through February.
