Feingold featured at California guitar music festival

Western Washington University music professor David Feingold recently returned from the first "Guitarraganza" festival in California.

Feingold was featured at the festival as composer of his 2011 guitar trio "Letter from Zamalek." The piece was featured in a concert given by the guitar trio Tritarra.

Feingold also gave a workshop on his composition for the solo guitar, "The Boardwalk," the title track from his Feingold's 1993 CD. This new guitar trio, composed after Feingold's recent sabbatial, was inspired by his time and experience in Cairo coinciding with "the Day of Rage" spawning the Arab Spring.

Held in the Central Valley region, Guitarraganza brought together three campuses in the area (Sacramento State University, Modesto Junior College and the University of the Pacific) centering on the performance of a large work by Japanese composer Shingo Fujii called "Shiki."

The performance of Shiki included the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and an orchestra of guitarists from the campuses of all three schools. The piece bears dedication to victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan.
