Western Welcomes over 2500 incoming Freshmen and their Families during Summerstart

Summerstart, the annual orientation program for incoming first-year students, began Aug. 1 and runs through Aug. 18.

This year, Western Washington University's New Student Services and Family Outreach will host over 2500 freshmen and 1800 family members during Summerstart.

Summerstart involves eight two-day programs for incoming freshmen and their families, involving many student services, academic departments, and faculty.  This cross-campus collaboration creates a robust program geared to prepare students and families for college life, featuring academic advising, placement testing, information fairs, tours, workshops, social activities, registration, and more.

In late July, over 900 transfer students—joined by over 300 family members—came to Western for Transitions, a one-day orientation, advising, and registration program for transfer students.
