Western City Center Now Open in Herald Building

Western Washington University’s new downtown office on the corner ground-level floor of the Herald Building officially opened for business on Monday, Sept. 21.

The new office at 1155 North State St. will serve as a welcome-to-Western center in the heart of the city. Seven members of Western’s University Advancement – including Alumni Association staff – are joined by student staff and interns at the downtown office called Western City Center.

Western President Bruce Shepard visited the Center on opening day.

The 2,500-square-foot site includes professional offices, a conference room and a walk-in public reception area. The site features retail space where Western-branded items can be purchased, a complimentary coffee station with Viking Blend provided by The Woods Coffee, a computer/phone kiosk for purchasing tickets from the WWU Box Office and Athletics, and information desk where the public can obtain information about Western.

WWU invites the public to stop by for some free Viking Blend coffee every day, and especially every “Western Wednesday,” when The Woods Coffee will also be providing free specialty pastries. Community members can join the Alumni Association (even if you didn’t attend Western), make a donation or learn how to get involved as a volunteer at Western.

Western City Center will begin hosting public events to invite students, alumni and community members to gather in the new space, beginning with the Oct. 2 Downtown Bellingham Art Walk. The center will also participate in the Downtown Bellingham Trick-or-Treat on Halloween and future community events as available.
