Summer 2015 construction underway
Spring commencement has finished and summer construction has begun. Here's a look at what's currently underway. For more projects taking place this summer, visit the website for the Office of Facilities Development and Capital Budget.
Residence Hall Renovations
From June 15 through September 4, Nash Hall will be undergoing the final phase of its renovation from last summer. This project will include the installation of additional automatic fire alarms, sprinkler systems, repaired roofing, electrical and plumbing updates to bring the building into compliance with the local, state and federal codes. Nash Hall will not be occupied during construction and will be fenced off.
The Ridgeway Kappa Hall Renovations are also set to continue through September 4. It has been unoccupied due to construction since April 1 due to the same general updates similar to Nash Hall. Tennis courts are also to be unoccupied during this time to stage supplies.
Mathes Hall and the Ridgeway Kappa Residence Halls will be receiving a Wireless Coverage Enhancement from July 2015 through September 2015 to fix the wireless deficiencies in the student rooms.
Stack 1 of the Birnam Wood Residence Halls will be undergoing a Moisture Intrusion Mitigation to seal and repair the below grade foundation walls. Construction will take place from July 2015 until August 2015.
Performing Arts Center Roofing Repairs
The Performing Arts Center roof will undergo repairs from June 15 until September 4, but the building will remain occupied throughout construction. The replacement of these roofs will help extend the life of the building and serve as better protection against water damages.
Various Parking Lot Seal Coat and Repairs
Parking lots 33G, 20R, 17G, 11G, 25G, 6V and the Edens Hall parking lot will be under construction due to new seal coats, which will be placed over the entire lot. Two weeks must be allowed between the repair work and seal coat in order to allow the asphalt to cure.
Lot 11G/25G will be closed from June 15 until June 28. It will be open again on June 30 until July 19 and from July 26 until August 23. A possible closure may happen anytime between July 20-26 and August 24-28.
Lot 6V will be closed from June 15 until July 2. It will reopen on July 2 until August 23. A possible closure may happen anytime between July 20-26 and August 24-28.
The VU Service Area will be closed between June 2 and July 15.
The North Half Lot 17 G and South Half Lot 17G, Lots 20R, 33G and Edens Hall will be closed anytime from June 29 until August 24.
Carver Academic Facility Renovation
The Carver Academic Facility, which was built in 1936 is to undergo a complete renovation, which includes the replacement of the building center section with a three-story addition that will wrap the east and south sides with a new structure and glass fenestration. This renovation will address substandard seismic and life safety conditions and create ADA access to programs and classrooms. This project will be ongoing from July 2015 until July 2017.
