Spring Career Fair set for April 19 on campus

Job seekers looking for ways to connect directly with employers are invited to attend Western Washington University’s Spring Career Fair, which will take place Thursday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Viking Union Multi-purpose Room.  Admission to the fair is free.

Sponsored by WWU’s Career Services Center, the Spring Career Fair is a major recruiting event that allows students and the general public to meet with hiring managers from a wide range of employers, including private-sector companies, non-profit organizations and government agencies.

This event provides valuable opportunities for students and alumni of all majors to discuss internship and employment possibilities with participating organizations.  For those who may be uncertain about their career goals or options, the Spring Career Fair is an excellent resource for conducting job market research.

More than 70 employers will be participating in this event, including: 24 Hour Fitness, AmeriCorps, Apex Systems, Clearwire, Comcast, Campus Point, Expedia, Fred Meyer, First Investors Corp., Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Issaquah School District, Maurices, NALCO, Outback Power Technologies, PACCAR, Synapse Product Development, Samson Rope, Sherwin Williams, SPIE, Trane, Washington Department of Revenue, Wells Fargo, Zones, Inc., and many more.

WWU students attending the Spring Career Fair are also encouraged to stop by the WWU Alumni Association’s “Don’t End Up Living in Your Parents’ Basement” alumni networking event being held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Miller Hall Collaborative Space. Students will be able to meet successful WWU alumni who will be visiting campus to share their career experiences and advice with future Western graduates. Executives and managers from top companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Waggener Edstrom and Costco will answer questions and provide advice to students on landing jobs at their companies. These alumni represent graduating classes from 1971 to 2011.

To make the most of both events, job seekers should research participating companies in advance, dress in professional business attire, and bring plenty of resumes. For more information about the Spring Career Fair, students should contact the Career Services Center at (360) 650-3240.
