See and be seen

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians should all take special care to see and be seen as they travel, especially during these months of low light, inclement weather and foggy conditions. The Sustainable Transportation Office has free tools available for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to support safety on the roads and sidewalks.

Motorists: contact the Sustainable Transportation Office for a free ice scraper! De-ice and de-fog your windshield completely before driving. Make sure your windows are clean, inside and out. Expect to see bikes on the road, as well as pedestrians at driveways and marked or unmarked intersections. Drive without distraction.

Cyclists: contact the Sustainable Transportation Office for free flashing and reflective tools. Wear light colored, reflective clothing and lights to be seen. Ride predictably and cycle without the distraction of headphones. Schedule a free ‘Visibility Session’ with our staff to receive personalized information and tips regarding your visibility when cycling.

Bikes parked on campus may be tagged with a coupon for the discounted purchase of a bike light set. Cyclists can contact The Sustainable Transportation Office for a copy of this coupon, as well.

Pedestrians: contact the Sustainable Transportation Office for flashing and reflective tools. Wear light colored, reflective clothing and lights to be seen. Walk without the distraction of headphones or texting. Cross streets at crosswalks and be cautious of cars the entire time when crossing. Be aware of cars also when crossing driveways. Schedule a free ‘Visibility Session’ with our staff to receive personalized information and tips regarding your visibility when walking.
