Sanford-Hill concert features cutting-edge duo Jan. 26

Western Washington University’s Sanford-Hill Piano Series will feature the cutting-edge Anderson & Roe Piano Duo in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

The spirited evening program will feature works by Brahms and Stravinsky as well as many original arrangements by the duo, including pieces by Piazolla, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, and Radiohead.

Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe are one of the most thrilling young duos performing today and offer adrenalized classical concerts as a four-hand and two-piano team. They have toured extensively throughout North America, appeared on NPR and MTV, performed at the Cliburn Concert Series and Gina Bachauer International Piano Festival, and have released two full length albums: “Reimagine” and “When Words Fade.”

Both Anderson and Roe strongly believe in the communicative potential of music, and they aim to make classical piano music a relevant and powerful force in society. As the Northwest Reverb recent stated, “[Anderson & Roe] swept the audience into a cheering mass of humanity, making a strong case that playing piano is the most fun thing that two people could ever do together.”

In conjunction with their Sanford-Hill Piano Series recital, Anderson & Roe will conduct a master class for young musicians from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, in the PAC Concert Hall. The master class is free and open to the public.

Tickets for the concert are available through the WWU Box Office and range in price from $9 to $24. A limited selection of tickets will also be available at Village Books and the Community Food Co-op.

WWU Box Office hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and one hour prior to the performance. For individual tickets or disability accommodations, contact the WWU Box Office at (360) 650-6146 or visit http://www.tickets.wwu.edu.

Now in its ninth season, the Sanford-Hill Piano Series has been renamed to coincide with exciting changes, including the growing number of distinctive pianists presented by the series and a new Steinway concert grand piano for performances.
