Pianist and Composer Logan Skelton to Interpret the Works of Emily Dickinson Nov. 6 at WWU

Pianist and composer Logan Skelton will perform a two-concert residency at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall at Western Washington University.

The Nov. 6 program consists of two books of songs: An Intimate Nature, and The Unknown Peninsula, composed by Skelton to poetry of Emily Dickinson. Skelton will be joined by soprano Jennifer Goltz, whose collaboration with Skelton spans two decades, two continents, and eight song cycles. The songs are combined with slides, images and texts projected to coincide with events in the music. Through layers of music, words, and images, audiences can experience unique and highly personal world of Emily Dickinson.

The Nov. 7 piano performance features works by Bartok, Liszt, and Skelton. Skelton will be joined in the concert by WWU piano faculty Milica Jelaca Jovanovic and Jeffrey Gilliam.

Skelton has served on the faculties of Manhattan School of Music, Missouri State University, and is currently professor of Piano and director of Doctoral Studies in Piano Performance at the University of Michigan. As a performer, Skelton has been featured on NPR's "Performance Today," "All Things Considered," and "Morning Edition." He has recorded numerous discs for Centaur, Albany, Crystal, Blue Griffin, and Naxos Records, the latter on which he performed on two pianos with fellow composer-pianist William Bolcom.
