Marrowstone festival now underway on campus
The Marrowstone Summer Music Festival begins today on the Western Washington University campus. Concerts begin Thursday, July 31.
The festival, founded in 1943, is the largest and most comprehensive summer orchestra training program in the Pacific Northwest. More than 200 musicians, aged 13 to 25, attend the festival each year from more than 30 states and several countries to study with the festival's internationally acclaimed faculty. During the intense two-week program, students are immersed in orchestral and chamber music rehearsals, master classes and professional performances for the Bellingham public.
The heart and soul of Marrowstone is its internationally acclaimed faculty, which boasts members of the world’s most distinguished symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, opera companies and conservatories. But the musical gifts of the faculty are most vividly reflected in their devotion to the training of the next generation of young artists. Marrowstone has always been a place where the precious legacy of great and timeless music serves to enrich the artists of today and inspire the performers of tomorrow. It is a place to watch musical sparks fly and to witness a great love for music being reborn and rekindled in the next generation of artists.
