Lighting geared up for 'The Mistakes Madeline Made'

David Saxton, an associate professor of lighting and sound at Western Washington University, checks the color output on the stage lights of the Performing Arts Center Mainstage Theater prior to the opening night of "The Mistakes Madeline Made" on Thursday, Oct. 22.

WWU’s Department of Theatre Arts will began its 2009-2010 season Thursday with the play, which runs from Oct. 22 to 24 and Oct. 28 to 31 in the Performing Arts Center Mainstage Theater.

Written by Elizabeth Meriwether and directed by Rich Brown, “The Mistakes Madeline Made” is a story of love and dirty people. The play follows a girl who toils away in a soul-crushing job as a personal assistant as she begins to battle all things clean after developing ablutophobia – the fear of bathing.  Soon her smell starts to overwhelm her co-workers and her many casual lovers.  A fantastic story about finding one’s self, the play raises the questions: Is it a political act to live dirty? And is it even feasible to live clean in our current times of unrest?

“The Mistakes Madeline Made” will show at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 22-24 and Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 28-31, as well as at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 24 and 31.

A dark comedy, “The Mistakes Madeline Made” includes language and nudity and is intended for an adult audience.

Tickets are available through the WWU Box Office and cost $12 for general admission and $9 for students and seniors.  Seating is limited, as the audience will be placed on the stage with the actors for increased intimacy.

WWU Box Office hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and one hour prior to the performance.  For individual tickets or disability accommodations, contact the WWU Box Office at (360) 650-6146 or visit http://www.tickets.wwu.edu.
