CSL faculty, students spending summer in Rwanda

For the past three years, the Center for Service-Learning at Western Washington University has provided students with the opportunity to participate a unique, faculty-led, study abroad program in Rwanda.

This year’s students are exploring the history and cultures of Rwanda through a 15-credit, nine-week program that included two weeks of intensive pre-trip preparation and includes seven weeks in Rwanda. The course offers students community-based learning that takes place in the classroom of other cultures and challenges assumptions about what it means to live in the age of globalization. Much of the learning is centered on the knowledge of local experts, field experiences and service activities.

This years’ students have been sharing their experiences and learning through a group blog. Western staff, faculty and students are invited to join in the cultural exchange by following the blog, “Learning and Serving in Rwanda.”
