Children invited to MLK Day read-in Jan. 20

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., children ages 3 to 8 are invited to Village Books between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, to hear stories about diversity, multiculturalism and the Civil Rights Movement.

Western Washington University’s Center for Service-Learning and Village Books are sponsoring the 2014 MLK Day Read-In. Children will have the opportunity to learn about in the hope, determination and leadership of Dr. King through literature, dialogue and activities facilitated by Western student volunteers. Western staff, faculty and community members are encouraged to bring children to Village Books (1200 11th St., Bellingham). Parents are welcome to participate.

Village Books and Western’s AS Bookstore also will have books available for purchase as part of the MLK Day book drive. Donation bins will be set up at both locations, and any books donated will benefit the library of Alderwood Elementary School.
