Student Gabrielle Nomura wins first-place award for reporting from Washington Press Association

Gabrielle Nomura, a student in the journalism program at Western Washington University, won a first place award for investigative reporting from the Washington Press Association for a piece titled "Heroin use may be on the rise in Whatcom County" that came out of her summer internship with The Bellingham Herald.

Nomura received the award at a recent WPA luncheon. WPA has an excellent, long-established contest open to professionals and students. The organization is affiliated with the National Federation of Press Women, although it is not limited to either women or press.
