Event May 13 to help veterans share their stories

The Associated Students Veteran’s Outreach Center, in partnership with the VFW, the Bellingham Vet Center, the English Department and more, will welcome veterans to campus from 7 to 9 p.m. May 13 in the Old Main Theatre to speak about their experiences.

The event, dubbed “Stories Deployed: The Veterans’ Chronicles,” joins a national storytelling movement for veterans that includes the Telling Project, Warriors Write, and the Veterans Writing Project.

English professor Kate Trueblood, one of the organizers of the event, believes that hearing these stories “helps provide a historical record of our times [that is in line with the long and distinguished tradition of writers rendering the wartime experience including Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, and Kurt Vonnegut.”

For more information about the event, or for disAbility accommodations, contact Brandon Quackenbush by phone at 360-650-6115 or by e-mail at as.voc@wwu.edu.
