Estrada to talk at noon today on issues in the Dominican Republic

Larry Estrada, a faculty member from Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies, will talk at noon today on "Statelessness, Race and Identity in the Dominican Republic." Estrada's presentation is part of the Center for International Studies' International Studies Lecture Series.

Estrada's presentation will look at historical trends and recent developments in terms of Dominican immigration policy and how Haitians and Haitian Dominicans have been consciously marginalized and held as stateless individuals and a captive work force. The presentation also will discuss efforts on behalf of Haitian refugees in line with the work of the MUDHA (Dominican, Haitian Women’s Movement) organization and Solange Pierre, winner of the Global Women of Courage Award presented by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and First Lady Michele Obama.
