ES elevators to be shut down daily in August

Both elevators in the Environmental Studies Building will be shut down from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily from Aug. 6 to Sept. 7 as part of the fire alarm upgrade project in the building. However, an elevator operator will be stationed at the west elevator to assist people who require use of the elevator. If absolutely necessary, the east elevator can be used for large deliveries.

Those who anticipate a need to use the east elevator should plan well in advance and inform the WWU project manager as soon as possible. Those who have scheduled deliveries that require use of either elevator also should share that information with the project manager.

Use of the east elevator will require a multi-step process: The university electricians must re-energize the elevator, then the operator must close the west elevator temporarily to run the east elevator. Finally, the university electricians must then “safe off” the east elevator after its use.

David Willett, project manager, is filling in for project manager Jeff Maurer until July 30. Willett may be contacted at (360) 650-6813 or david.willett@wwu.edu. Jeff Maurer will return July 30. His contact info is (360) 650-3260 and jeff.maurer@wwu.edu.
