East College Way to be blocked Veterans Day morning

A crane and semi-truck will block East College Way by the Steam Plant on the Western Washington University campus from 6:30 to 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, the Veterans Day holiday.

Thanks to the utility upgrades being done under Public Works project No. 678, the 11-feet-tall, 40,000-pound transformer that's located north of the Steam Plant is no longer needed. The crane will pick up the transformer and place it on the semi-truck for removal from campus. The crane will then proceed to the "snake pit" area (fenced area just east of Old Main in the parking lot), remove the old switchgear and place a new generator in a permanent position within the fenced area. The work was scheduled on the holiday in order to minimize impacts to campus.
