DRS to provide special retirement info session for Western employees

The Washington state Department of Retirement Systems periodically holds retirement planning seminars geared for employees who are within five years of retirement. This program is designed to provide whatever information employees may need as they near retirement.

Because of the popularity of the program, the seminars tend to fill up quickly. To answer this demand, Jim Mendoza from DRS will offer a special session for Western Washington University employees from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, may 17, in Miller Hall Room 138.

While the traditional seminar is geared to people within five years of retirement, all employees – regardless of where they are in their careers – are encouraged to attend this program. The goal is to help employees understand how the various retirement benefits – pension, deferred compensation, social security and healthcare – fit together.

Those who wish to attend should register directly with Mendoza at jim.mendoza@drs.wa.gov. He also is available for a limited number of one-on-one consultations; these will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
