Drainage, sewer system work to begin Friday, July 15

The storm water drainage system buried between the Fine Arts building and the Art Annex has failed and is in need of emergency repairs. Because the aging, adjacent sanitary sewer will be impacted by the emergency work, it will be replaced at the same time. To ensure that both buildings are operational for the academic year, the area between Fine Arts and the Art Annex will be cordoned off from July 15 through Aug. 4 while emergency repairs are made.

This is a change from an earlier announcement; work on the project now will begin Friday, July 15.

The piping system is very deep, and repairs will require excavation with the associated noise, dust and fumes from July 15 through the end of the month. Final paving is scheduled for Aug. 4. All pedestrians and vehicular traffic should avoid this area.

The main northwest entry to Fine Arts will remained closed for the duration of construction. All other entries will remain open, however, the restrooms on the north end (Room 103 and Room 105) and sinks in Room 101 and Room 102 will be shut down for one or two days, with the exact dates yet to be determined. All other restrooms will remain open at all times.

East entries to the Art Annex will be closed, except for the southeast entry. The west entries will remain open. The restrooms and all sinks will be shut down for one to two days, with the exact dates still to be determined.
