Downhill lane of W. College Way closed for several weeks

The downhill lane of W. College Way between Highland Drive and Bill McDonald Parkway, near the Wade King Student Recreation Center, is closed as of Monday, Aug. 12, while construction crews working with the city of Bellingham pour new concrete, according to an announcement from the city.

The closure could last for as little as two weeks or as many as five weeks, depending on the time it takes the new concrete to be ready for vehicle traffic, said Craig Mueller, the city's engineer for the project.

Detours will be in place directing vehicles around the closure.

Uphill traffic on W. College Way will not be affected. Flaggers will direct traffic as needed through the lane closures.

Other work this week also will limit traffic near the university:

Bill McDonald Parkway from Ferry Ave to Samish Way

The westbound lane of Bill McDonald Parkway from Ferry Ave. to Samish Way will be reduced to 10 feet and the speed limit reduced to 10 mph while Faber Construction begins pedestrian improvements on the north side of the parkway.

Flaggers will direct traffic through the construction area.
