Do Good in Your Neighborhood Day is Sept. 30

Roll up your sleeves and get involved in Do Good in Your Neighborhood Day Sept. 30 from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is an opportunity to build connections with your neighbors while doing some good in the Happy Valley and York neighborhoods.

Happy Valley volunteers will work in the community garden next to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1720 Harris Ave. in Bellingham planting fruit trees, creating a path, and winterizing the garden. The community garden benefits the Bellingham Food Bank and Skookum Kids, a local non-profit providing shelter and care for children entering or transitioning into foster care.

York volunteers will perform much needed environmental restoration work at Harriet Spanel Park, 1200 Franklin St. Bellingham, located in the York Neighborhood. The park is an important part of the community providing room to run and play for neighbors of all ages.

The projects will end with a celebration, free pizza and games for all volunteers. While the events were developed with the Happy Valley and York neighborhoods in mind, all interested volunteers are welcome and encouraged to participate.
