Dinner to celebrate Filipino heritage is Oct. 23

The Associated Students club Filipino American Student Association is hosting its annual Heritage Dinner at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room.

The price is $10 for members of Northwest Filipino American Student Association with WWU student ID or $15 for the general public. Semi-formal attire is suggested.

The meal will consist of traditional Filipino dishes such as chicken adobo, lumpia and pansit, and will be catered by University Dining from recipes provided by FASA members.

There will be performances by a professional traditional Filipino dance troupe and members of FASA as well as musical and spoken word performances and a keynote speaker by the founder of WWU’s FASA chapter.

Donations will be accepted for Cottolengo Filipino, a nonprofit organization in the Philippines that provides shelter, clothing and food to abandoned disabled children.

The Filipino American Student Association was established in 1994 when it separated from the Asian Pacific Student Union. The club's goal has been to spread awareness of the Filipino culture at Western. Today, it strives to build a stronger Filipino community on campus as well as foster the talent, academic success, and well-being of members. The club is diverse and accepts people from different cultural backgrounds.
