Did you know? 'Father of Pioneer Square' designed VU addition at WWU in 1967

Ralph D. Anderson, the famed Seattle architect who began a movement to restore the architecture of Seattle's historic Pioneer Square, was the architect behind the 1960s addition to the Viking Union on the Western Washington University campus. Work on that addition was begun in 1967 and was finished by 1970.

Anderson died on Oct. 24, 2010. The Seattle Times recently ran a story of his life online.

More photos of the Viking Union from the 1950s, '60s and '70s are available online from Special Collections.
