Design Days continues with poster show, film, speaking events

Design Days, a week of events put on by the Western Washington University Design Department, continues through Friday, May 16, on campus.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in cooperation with Bellingham's Pickford Film Center, the department presents "Pablo: The Movie," an animated film on the life and work of infamous movie title designer Pablo Ferro. The film blends documentary and animation elements to tell the saga of Pablo Ferro's unconventional life, coming Cuba to work with Stan Lee and Disney in New York and then to Hollywood studios. Once hailed by Stanley Kubrick as the father of the sixties look and MTV aesthetics, Pablo Ferro created an aesthetic for an era and laid out an array of visual techniques that would be copied and reworked for decades.

Posters designed by juniors in the BFA Design Program are on display throughout the week at Ideal, a local Bellingham design shop. The projects were produced in the Typography II course this spring and feature hand-lettered typographic solutions highlighting the different and unique neighborhoods in the Bellingham community. Check out the posters this week during store hours: Monday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1227 Cornwall Ave.
