Damaged portion of Old Main to close to public today, personal items must be removed

By the end of business today, Nov. 30, Facilities Management crews working on the renovation of the central portion of Old Main will close the construction zone to public access. Because the area will be off-limits, any personal or business-related items will need to be removed from the area before 5 p.m. today.

Crews have been working to mitigate water damage caused by the 2.5-inch sprinkler pipe that burst above the fifth floor of the building Nov. 23 and flooded a number of office suites in the central section of the building that faces the Old Main lawn. Renovation efforts will begin in earnest Wednesday, and project manager Lloyd Hungate asks that all employees with items in the affected areas remove them today.

"They did a great job moving things out yesterday, and just a few things remain," he said. "We're doing all this work in-house, and we need to turn the area from a disaster zone to a reconstruction zone as soon as possible."
