CBE to hold Western Business Summit Oct. 21

Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics and its Center for Excellence in Management Education will host the Western Business Summit on Friday, Oct. 21.

Initiated in 2004, the purpose of the Western Business Summit – formally known as Teaching Scholarship Day – is to recognize and promote excellence in business education at Western's College of Business and Economics by fostering connections among business professionals, faculty, staff, and students.

The activities will include a Business Education Showcase from 11 a.m. until noon in Parks Hall 108, entitled “Spotlight on Award-Winning Accounting Students.” The showcase will feature presentations from student teams from the College’s award-winning accounting program. The student teams received awards for their presentations at regional and international meetings of the Beta Alpha Psi honorary society. No registration is required for the Showcase presentation.

In addition, the Summit event will include interactive educational sessions in which business students may learn directly from industry professionals. The sessions will include “Professionalism Workshop: Survival Tips from the Pros,” “Entrepreneurship Roundtable,” “Beyond the MBA: Wisdom from the Workplace,” “Interview Workshop: Interview for Success in the MIS Field,” and a “Meet the Virtual Mentors” reception for the College’s Virtual Mentor Program. From 12:15-1:30 p.m. in the Wade King Recreation Center’s MAC Gymnasium, CBE will hold a luncheon to recognize its 2011 Distinguished Faculty Fellow Award recipients. Associate Professor of Decision Sciences Chris Sandvig will be recognized with the Distinguished Teaching Fellow Award and Professor of Decision Sciences Deepinder Bajwa will be recognized with the Distinguished Research Fellow Award. The cost for the lunch is $25 and registration for the luncheon is required.
