CBE to hold Western Business Summit Oct. 19

Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics  and its Center for Excellence in Management Education will host the Western Business Summit on Friday, Oct. 19.

The activities will include a luncheon to recognize the College’s 2012 Distinguished Faculty Fellow Award recipients, industry advisory Board meetings, a Business Education Showcase, a student “Professionalism” workshop, and opportunities for students and faculty members to network with business professionals.

The Business Education Showcase is entitled “Partnerships in Marketing: Industry and Student Collaborations” and is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Viking Union 567. The showcase will feature presentations by current student Tony Yakovich; Dept. of Finance and Marketing Chair Sandra Mottner; industry professionals and Western Alumni from Microsoft; Volvo Trucks Global; and Brian Williams Consulting, including Rachel Waite, Asa Theleen, and Brian Williams. No registration is required for the Showcase presentation.

Also, the Summit will include interactive educational sessions in which business students may learn directly from industry professionals. One of the sessions will be a workshop for the College’s student Professional Readiness program entitled “Professionalism: Survival Tips from the Pros.” The professionalism workshop will be in Viking Union 565 from 11 a.m to 12:15 p.m. and will feature Western alumni Jeff McKee, managing director, Premier Capital Associates; Mark Myers, Williams Kastner PLLC; and Lori Reece, broker/owner, RE/MAX Whatcom County, Inc.

The workshop is open to all Western students, but registration is required. Other educational sessions will include a “Meet the Virtual Mentors” reception for the College’s Virtual Mentor Program and a MBA Advisory Board/Student Networking Workshop.
