Brick wall at north stair tower of Miller Hall to be removed

On Jan. 13, crews from Dawson Construction began removal and demolition of the brick wall at the north stair tower of Miller Hall on the Western Washington University campus. This is the wall south of the London Plane tree and south of the bell tower entrance.

The contractor will remove the brick for reuse with small chipping hammers. There also will be limited demolition saw cutting. Some of the lower level windows on the west-facing wall (rooms 152A through 154) may be covered with plywood. A tarp barrier will be installed to protect the windows on the upper floors. The contractor will minimize noise impacts as much as possible.

Demolition of non-structural elements in the old ATUS area will begin on aproximately Jan. 19. Barriers will be installed to protect occupants from dust and noise.

The demolition contractor will work from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, through Sunday, Jan. 17, in order to make up for lost time that occurred in the past few weeks.
